The Federal Triangle is one of the most powerful areas of Washington DC. This 70-acre site is bounded by Pennsylvania Avenue, Constitution Avenue, and 15th Street and is home to a large number of federal buildings as well as popular attractions. The Federal Triangle should be included in your sightseeing plans for your Washington DC trip.

The White House sits on one end of the Federal Triangle and is the home and main office of the President of the United States. Construction on this historic building began in 1792 under President George Washington, and since that time the building has stood as a symbol of national pride and patriotism. A tour of the White House starts at the White House Visitor Center. Tours are free to the public and are available daily. With a tour, you can view the beautiful architecture, furnishings, and presidential artifacts on display throughout the building. The tour also includes a 30-minute educational video about the Presidency.

On another end of the Federal Triangle is the US Capitol building. This grand building houses the legislative branch including the US Senate and the US House of Representatives. The building was originally constructed in 1793. With a tour of the building, you can explore centuries of American history as well as watch democracy in action. The tour takes you to six congressional office buildings, three Library of Congress buildings, the Rotunda, and more. Tours are available on a first-come, first-serve basis on Monday through Saturday, and depart from the Capitol Guide Service kiosk.

Also located in the Federal Triangle is the National Aquarium. This treasure boasts over eighty world-class marine exhibits that are home to over 200 unique species. As you explore the National Aquarium, keep your eyes open for opportunities to watch animal feedings and to speak with the keepers about the marine animals and their natural habitats.
