Sitting on 1,200 acres, this park actually contains two parks inside it, the Kenilworth Park and the Aquartic Garden. Aquatic Gardens boasts recreational areas such as soccer and baseball fields as well as basketball and tennis courts. Anacostia Park also provides water sports on the Anacostia River, as well as an 18-hole golf course, roller skating, and more.
Your family will love spending the day at Six Flags America in Washington DC. This thrill park features exciting rides for all ages, from the Ferris wheel and Great Race Antique Cars to the Batwind and Two-Face roller coasters. You will also find plenty of live entertainment, including regular daily shows and special performances from big name stars. Hurricane Harbor, Six Flag's water park, is also located on-site and provides you with a fun way to cool off with water slides, tube chutes, inner tube rapids rides, a lazy river, and more.
If you're planning a visit over the extended Labor Day weekend, be sure to check out some of the special events taking place in the city. Glen Echo Park is hosting an Art Show and Irish Festivities throughout the holiday weekend, with local artists' work on display, as well as Irish cultural music, dancing, and other events. The Greenbelt Labor Day Festival runs Friday through Monday on the Labor Day weekend, and features carnival rides, a petting zoo, live entertainment, athletic competitions, a Miss Greenbelt pageant, and more. On Sunday evening, September 6, the National Symphony Orchestra is kicking off its fall season with a free concert at the West Lawn of the US Capitol. You can also catch the Olde Towne Gaithersburg Labor Day Parade or the Kensington Labor Day Parade, featuring live high school band performances and others marching in the parades.
