The well-known area of Adams Morgan is considered an extremely diverse and eccentric centered neighborhood, located in the area of Greater Washington, DC, and considered a gateway community for many immigrants. Located two miles from the
White House, this area has one of the largest artistic gatherings of expressive art displays in the entire city. Additionally, Adams Morgan is considered a major hotspot for international sights, sounds, and aromas that keeps it hopping--fun for the adventurous and young-at-heart, a real multi-cultural opportunity for shopping and dining, located in a historic area built in the late 1800s to the early 1900s of memorable architecture of rowhouses and apartment buildings.
A part of the Washington, DC Heritage Trail, Adams Morgan offers for starters a self-guided walking trail with signs leading the visitors from one historic location to another, ranging from the elite enclave to the neighborhood's art, activists, entrepreneurs, and immigration center. Part of this eclectic neighborhood's vibrant atmosphere is the wholehearted political activism which is the core of Adams Morgan. Other sites which form that core offer many historic sites for the travelers—the site of the 1948 first Toys 'R' Us, the 16th Street luxurious embassies, row houses and prestigious apartments of Kalorama Triangle and Victorian 18th Street townhouses.
A unique and outstanding area for tourists to visit is Lanier Heights, a haven in Adams Morgan for the 1960 radicals, activists and left-wing leaders—and once a prestigious neighborhood. Established in the 1800s, its development occurred shortly after 1878 when Washington's boundaries were extended to include all of the District of Columbia. Regardless, the area of Adams Morgan has always been considered an extremely colorful neighborhood with a unique flair about it that has this same atmosphere today.
