Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial in Washington, DC is a memorial to the former United States President and also a tribute to the era in which he served. This memorial is located near the National Mall on Cherry Tree Walk. It is part of the National Parks system. The memorial is made up of four room like areas which represent the four terms FDR served as president. The rooms are like a walk through history with highlights of events that happened during the twelve years of his presidency. There are also sculptures and other tributes to FDR at the memorial site, including tributes to his beloved dog, his wife, Eleanor and even a funeral monument representing the death of FDR. A grassy area between the second and third sections is a representation of WWII. It is one of the largest memorials in the country, with a large area that is lined with shade trees and water areas. It is a reflective area which allows you to stop and really take in what FDR did during his presidency and what the country as a whole experienced during those twelve years. It was a time of growth and change for the country and that all comes through within the granite walls and sculptures of the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial. The memorial has been located here since May of 1997. It is free to visit and open to the public 24 hours a day. During the day and evening hours the memorial is staffed.
