The Governor Ross Mansion and Plantation near Washington DC is a fantastic way to see what life was like before the Civil War, the plantation even has restored slave quarters, Civil War reenactments, and at times picnics and festivals celebrated on the grounds.
William Henry Harrison Ross served as Delaware's governor from 1851-1855, his mansion was built in 1859 on his 1,389 acre property left to him by his father. Ross was a Southern sympathizer and even aided the Confederacy during the Civil War, because of that he had to flee to England at the peak of the war. The rich history, restorations, and beautiful scenery of this plantation will give you a memorable experience.
Now the historic property is owned and operated by the Seaford Historical Society. It's open for tours the 4th Sunday of each month from 1-4 p.m. or by reservation at other times.
