The Historic Blenheim Estate is a real treat in the City of Fairfax.
Blenheim is an 1855 era estate that features a central hall design with a brick exterior. The City of Fairfax purchased the estate in 1999 with plans to turn the home and grounds into a Civil War museum and park. The Fairfax Civil War weekend is hosted on the site every year the first weekend in May.
The new renovation features a classroom, gift shop and exhibits. The historic Blenheim Estate was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This recognition was gained due to the artifacts featuring the signatures, art and poems by Union soldiers who were occupants of the home from 1862 to 1863 during the Civil War. The diary on the walls is a well preserved national treasure that is a work by the soldiers who would write their feelings, draw pictures and simply sign the walls of the home during their occupation.
This diary is an interesting look into the life of a Civil War soldier. It gives insight that only those who lived through the era could ever know. The Historic Blenheim Estate is a true piece of history that the City of Fairfax plans to upkeep and maintain for future generations to enjoy and learn from. The estate can be visited throughout the year where you are welcome to tour the grounds. There are many photo opportunities of various sites on the grounds.
Re-live the days of the Civil War with live music, wagon rides, actors portraying notable figures of the era, and a variety of other exhibits and activities during Civil War Weekend.
