The Maryland Renaissance Festival is the second largest Renaissance festival in the nation boasting an average of 14,700 customers a day during each season. Each year the festival attracts thousands of tourists to the region and the Festival has been named one of the "100 Best Events" twice by the American Bus Association.
At the Renaissance Festival guests can expect nothing less than an authentic Renaissance experience when attending the Festival. Every morning guests are greeted by the King's Welcome, the food consists of massive turkey legs and meat pies, and everywhere you look a piece of the past is alive. Jugglers and musicians roam the grounds, fine craft booths are everywhere offering wood butchery, sculptures, stained glass, etc. and there is even a fishmonger roaming around dishing out the town gossip.
The Renaissance Festival is a family-oriented event. In addition to the amazing sights and sounds offered by the Festival, daily "Children's Program" activities and shows are held for the enjoyment of wee ones under the age of 10. Free pony rides are available for children of all ages, children's plays and sing-alongs are held every day, and for the older children a juggling school is situated by the Royal Stage.
For Renaissance fanatics, the Maryland Renaissance Festival offers an ideal wedding ceremony and reception location. Though flowers and decorations are not allowed to be put up at the Festival, the grand splendor of the natural settings around the Chapel provide enough beauty that brides don't seem to mind. Wedding parties must be dressed in proper Renaissance costumes and it is encouraged that the guests follow suit.
